The Basics of Trauma Sensitive Yoga

 What is Trauma Sensitive Yoga?

Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TSY) is a yoga practice developed with the specific purpose of general health and wellbeing, along with improvement in the management of symptoms related to trauma. TSY classes are presented with special verbiage that offer practitioners invitations and opportunities to determine their own subjective experience and discover their own internal locus of control.

What are the benefits of Trauma Sensitive Yoga?

TSY can facilitate in the regulation of physiological arousal and assist in grounding and stabilization. Yoga has also been found to help in returning to a baseline more quickly when a stressor is triggered. TSY can also be beneficial in providing social support without the pressure to interact with others.

What does a Trauma Sensitive Yoga class look like?

In a TSY class, we practice forms, breathing, and mindfulness. The main themes of our classes will be: being present, making choices, taking effective action, and creating rhythms. Classes can range from 30-90 minutes and can be catered to each client/group. Classes can be secular or faith-based.
